What IS Kinesiology? (Kin- easy- ology)
If you don’t understand or don’t know how to explain Kinesiology.. you are not alone! I, myself, had trouble explaining it until about a year out of my training to become a Kinesiologist.
It was only then that the penny dropped… I was walking along the beach and talking to myself inside my head (as I often do) & thinking about an emotional reaction I had the day before. It was then that I realized it.. I wasn’t judging my reaction! Instead, I was merely examining it, working through it and coming to an understanding. Such a massive change, yet so subtle I didn’t even realize it had happened!
For me, this is what Kinesiology is all about. Helping you to really pin point the answers to the questions such as: Why do I set myself back? Why has that symptom has developed? Why do I feel like this? Helping you to understand the answers to these questions, and thus, leading to you feeling more empowered, less critical of yourself and in better health!
“Kinesiology” as the word describes, is muscle testing or muscle monitoring, often used in an applied science to test the strength and resistance of a muscle. “Kinesiologists” use the muscle monitoring as a form of biofeedback. Which means we use it as a tool to find things that your body, subconscious mind and energy field respond to.
Using the “indicator muscle” (a selected muscle which we repeatedly use to indicate), we are able to find emotions, beliefs, substances etc, which your body responds to. Generally speaking, we find the emotion/belief/substance which is causing the stress. We then chat to you about it, establishing where you may have developed that emotion/ belief or have come into contact with the substance.
We are then able to find, using the muscles again, what your body will respond to best in order to restore harmonious energy flow. Ultimately, helping you to move through the issue. This may be flower essences, counseling, acupressure points, reflex
points, nutrition or lifestyle changes, colour, crystals, chakra balancing.. the list is as endless as your kinesiologists knowledge!
The modern therapy called “Kinesiology” associates itself closely with Traditional Chinese Medicine theories. Thus, we look at the physical, emotional, mental and energetic aspects of your body in relation to the 14 main meridians of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). For instance, the Liver in TCM can be affected by an imbalance in expression of anger, which in turn, may cause physical symptoms such as headaches. Likewise, if there is a disruption of energy flow in the Liver, causing headaches, then an emotional expression of this may be anger or frustration.
One of the reasons Kinesiologists use TCM is that it encompasses a holistic view of health – energy, emotion & physical, and looks at how each of these aspects can influence each other in different ways. By restoring energy flow through an ‘under stress’ organ then emotional/mental and physical issues can be restored back to health.
To sum it all up- a Kinesiologist will use muscle monitoring to help you to find the reasons as to WHY your body/mind/energy is under stress. They will then help to you move through that issue by finding which natural resources will work for you.
With a greater understanding of what is causing an issue and what will help you to move through it, we are able to move through life feeling more empowered, healthy and knowing that we can heal ourselves.
And that is what Kinesiology is all about!
